Niger stories
When the River breaks
Role: Art Direction & Animation
Organization: United Nations OCHA
Amid the rising waters of the Niger River, the stories of Amina, Fati, and Hama show how flooding can completely reshape everyday life. To bring their experiences to life, I worked with materials shared by those affected—photographs, videos, and audio recordings—and, through collage compositions, I built three environments that simulate a brief journey from the perspective of each impacted character. The project grew out of the initiative and fieldwork of photographer Charlotte Cans (UN OCHA), who created the photographs and videos and gathered the material that shaped the narrative. Working closely together within UN OCHA, we transformed that documentation into a piece designed to amplify these voices. In doing so, the work highlights the urgent needs of communities impacted along the river.
The result was an introductory animation that invites audiences to better understand the issue. Shared on social media and supported by a dedicated website, the project continues to raise awareness and encourage support for this important cause.
